Medication in School
In line with the Trust’s Supporting Learners with Medical Conditions policy and updated Health & Safety guidance, please note the following procedures for medication in school.
Long‑Term Medical Needs (e.g., inhalers)
If your child requires prescribed medication for a long‑term condition, an Individual Health Care Plan must be completed. Please email the office for more information.
Short‑Term Prescribed Medication (e.g., antibiotics)
For short‑term medication prescribed 4 times a day or more, a Medication Consent Form must be completed.
- Available via email or download below.
- School will administer one dose during the school day, spaced evenly over 24 hours.
Over-the-Counter Medication
We are unable to administer non‑prescribed medication (e.g., pain relief). A parent/carer can come into school to administer this. Please arrange this in advance via office@croxbyprimary.co.uk.
Wrap Around Care (Prescribed Medication)
If your child attends Breakfast Club or After School Club and takes prescribed medication 3 times a day, school may administer one dose during the school day. This does not apply to Croxby Activity Clubs or First Steps Clubs. Please contact the school office and complete the relevant consent form.
Learners with Existing Plans
Children with medical/attendance plans or children with SEND who require medication relating to a diagnosed condition, please contact the office.
Additional Information
- Throat lozenges are not permitted in school.
- Sun cream is not classed as medication unless specifically prescribed. It is managed through the school’s risk assessment process.

Medical Appointments
Medical Appointments (Hospital, Doctors, Dentists, Opticians)
- Routine appointments should be made outside of school hours.
- Where this is not possible, pupils should be out of school for the minimum amount of time necessary.
- You will be required to provide evidence of the appointment.
- A screenshot/attachment of the appointment should be emailed to office@croxbyprimary.co.uk in advance - clearly stating the time of collection or approximate time of return.
- If you do not have evidence of the appointment in advance, we will require this within 7 days of the appointment date.
Collection for medical appointments is via the main entrance - no collections/returns are available over lunchtime as the office is closed.
Absence relating to medical appointments will not be authorised without supporting evidence. This also applies if collecting early for an appointment which relates to someone other than the child.
