Five currant buns in a bakers shop . The Wrens had the best time this week exploring the nursery rhyme taking turns to buy a currant bun and making buns out of play-dough to share. #teamcroxby
Creativity was in full flow in Year 5 Deer yesterday! Following our exploration of Friedensreich Hundertwasser's artwork last week, the children designed and created their own masterpieces inspired by illustrations from our current reading book, Shackleton's Journey. The finished pieces were fantastic, and it was wonderful to see the children expressing themselves so creatively while developing their artistic skills. Well done, Year 5 Deer!
As artists, we have been exploring the work of Frank Auerbach and Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The children have been comparing and contrasting the two artists, considering how their experiences of World War II influenced their lives and artistic styles. For our final pieces, we took inspiration from Hundertwasser's use of organic lines, harmonious colours and chroma, combining these ideas with the beautifully illustrated Shackleton's Journey by William Grill. The children were challenged to work with just two colours, carefully mixing and creating a range of shades to add depth, definition and detail to their artwork. We are incredibly proud of the precision, creativity and thought that has gone into every finished piece. As designers, Year 1 Mice worked enthusiastically to design pop-up cards before applying their knowledge of mechanisms to design and make bridges and sliders. They confidently used and understood key technical vocabulary, and demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills by modifying and improving their sliders when adjustments were needed to ensure they worked effectively. #workhard
