OPAL Progamme

The OPAL programme is a structured, school-wide initiative designed to improve the quality of play for all children.

Research has shown that children spend 20% of their time at school playing so we want to ensure this time is high-quality engaging and fun. OPAL acknowledges that play is essential for physical health, emotional well-being, social development, and academic success. OPAL transforms outdoor spaces into rich, engaging environments where children can explore, create, and develop essential life skills.

Unlike traditional playgrounds, OPAL encourages free, self-directed play using diverse materials and natural elements, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and resilience. It promotes inclusion, ensuring all children, regardless of ability or background, experience meaningful and enjoyable play. In addition, OPAL play will increase physical activity, leading to enhanced engagement and learning outcomes. By embedding play into the school’s culture, OPAL supports long-term well-being and social skills, preparing children for future challenges. The programme also reduces playground-related incidents and helps schools manage resources efficiently, making it a sustainable and cost-effective investment.

OPAL play ensures that every child has access to high-quality play that benefits their development and overall school experience.
